Residential : Development
Conlon Engineering provided structural engineering design for a new four-story apartment building located at 62 Prospect Ridge in Ridgefield, Connecticut. The project consists of multiple residential units arranged across four levels, with a mix of two-bedroom, two-bath layouts and shared amenities such as a community room, mail area, and elevator service. Conlon designed the foundation, floor, and roof systems to support efficient vertical stacking, open-plan living areas, and multiple balconies. The structural layout was closely coordinated with MEP systems and accessibility requirements, including ADA-compliant entry ramps and elevator access. Attention to cost-effective construction and long-term durability guided material and framing selections.
The building employs wood-framed floors and roof systems supported by load-bearing walls and strategically located steel members to accommodate large openings and circulation paths. Balconies and overhangs were engineered for both structural performance and aesthetic consistency with the architectural elevations. Additional considerations included lateral bracing, fire separation between units, and support for mechanical shafts and stair towers. The structure was designed to meet current building codes for multi-family residential construction while maintaining architectural features like clapboard siding, brick veneer, and standing seam roof accents. Conlon’s involvement helped deliver a practical and well-integrated structural system for this new residential community.
