Garage Structural Repair and Upgrades
Conlon Engineering provided structural engineering services for the inspection, repair, and partial renovation of the third-floor parking structure in downtown Hartford. The project addressed areas of deterioration in the elevated concrete slab, CMU walls, and waterproofing systems. Conlon prepared repair drawings and construction documents to guide the contractor in implementing selective demolition, patching, drainage improvements, and structural reinforcements. Special attention was paid to maintaining safety and accessibility throughout the construction process, as the garage remained in partial use. The work was carried out with minimal disruption to the surrounding high-traffic urban environment.
The scope included new expansion joints, striping layouts, and waterproofing membranes designed to prolong the life of the structure and reduce future maintenance needs. Structural coordination was required to tie new work into existing elements while complying with modern code requirements. Conlon’s engineering expertise helped ensure the long-term performance and safety of the garage while improving functionality for daily users. The result is a renewed and reliable parking structure that supports the ongoing operations of the buidlings commercial tenants and visitors.
